Revisiting the Workshop

Over the holidays I spent time at home with my family in Ohio. My dad is a woodworker/craftsman and had just finished refurbishing a planer for which I was helping him clear space. As I walked around his shop, I began to notice design that had been totally lost on me all those years helping him with various projects. I was inspired by nearly every piece of typography, from intricate script to condensed gothic. I began to think about how a lot of the hip style that we see today is heavily influenced by the industrial age, but that, while beautiful, it’s only an imitation of the originals I was seeing in my dad’s shop.

Lesson learned: always take a second look.

I grabbed my camera and took a few shots of some of my favorites.
