We Link To Be Liked

people go here for game vids. and release dates.

Two nuggets:

A) Twittering links doesn’t appear any different than sharing a link through IM or email. Yet Twitter works best when sharing is delivered in, as Hicks said in Aliens, “short, controlled bursts.” You’ve only got 140 characters to work with, and even tinyurl’ing takes off a chunk, so you think well, if I’m already taking shortcuts, why should I even bother explaining myself and just simply tweet the link and nothing more? Former senior executive editor of GFW and now associate producer at 2K Boston Shawn Elliott shares his thoughts.

And 2) for you gamers out there, when was the last time you went to a game’s official site for…anything really?

Games’ official sites suck big dooky for many reasons, and this Edge article tells you so. My biggest problem with official sites is they offer nothing I can’t find elsewhere. Any important announcements – teasers, release dates, system specs, gameplay vids – can be found on any of the major gaming blogs or news sites; if I can see these announcements in my RSS reader, I have absolutely no reason to go to the site.

And besides, most of the time, a gaming blog can detail everything about a game’s official site in one simply blog post. That’s how content-lite these sites are.

Something to think about: Given that gaming blogs and news sites information overload for a game, what would make you go to that game’s official site?
